There’s a lot to do in Dorset. For military history buffs, Bovington Tank museum is a must see. The museum features nearly three hundred tanks, armoured vehicles and other military transports from the UK and around the globe, including the only functioning German Tiger I tank in the world and a British Mark I from the First World War....
Or, if nostalgia is more up your street, you could take a walk up Gold Hill in Shaftsbury, the site of the famous sir Ridley Scott-directed Hovis advert, from 1973. Another famous local sight is Durdle Door, a natural rock arch. The arch is around 200ft tall and made of limestone, eroded into its familiar arch over the millennia by the sea. It is undoubtedly one of Dorset’s most photographed and iconic landmarks.
Dorset is well known for its Jurassic coast, most of which is classed as a World Heritage Site. This area is famous for many archaeological discoveries covering the entire Mesozoic era. Fossil hunting is still popular and there are guided fossil walks available to (hopefully) help you find your very own ammonite, or perhaps something much bigger. . .
There is also a regular ferry service available to the neighboring Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, if you’re feeling adventurous and fancy a change of scenery.
